- DIET: Resume your previous diet.
- ACTIVITY: DO NOT blow your nose until advised by physician. No straining, strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for 7-10 days after surgery. Keep your head elevated on extra pillows for the first days after surgery.
- MEDICATIONS: Take all prescription medication as prescribed.
- Discomfort is usually relieved by Fioricet or Advil.
- Saline nasal spray should be used 4-6 times a day. This keeps the nasal tissues moist and promotes healing. Change the nasal drip pad as needed over the first 24 hours.
- FOLLOW-UP: Return to the office 7 days or earlier by appointment. Our medical assistant will call daily to assess patient’s progress.
- WORK/SCHOOL: You may return 5 to 7 days after surgery.
- INFORMATION: Bloody drainage is normal and will reduce over the first 7 days.
- Difficulty breathing through the nose and nasal crusting is to be expected.
- Headache, nasal pain, and nasal pressure are normal after surgery.
- The incision made during the Septoplasty was made just inside the left nostril and sutures may be visible. These are absorbable and will not need to be removed.
- Call our office for excessive bleeding, eye pain, change in vision or fever over 101.
