Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

  • DIET: Resume your previous diet.
  • ACTIVITY: DO NOT blow your nose until advised by physician. No straining, strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for 7-10 days after surgery. Keep your head elevated on extra pillows for the first days after surgery.
  • MEDICATIONS: Take all prescription medication as prescribed.
    • Discomfort is usually relieved by Fioricet or Advil.
    • Saline nasal spray should be used 4-6 times a day. This keeps the nasal tissues moist and promotes healing. Sinus irrigation using a sinus irrigation bottle is recommended twice daily. Change the nasal drip pad as needed over the first 24 hours.
  • FOLLOW-UP: Schedule an appointment with our office 7 days or earlier after surgery. Our medical assistant will call daily to assess patient’s progress.
  • WORK/SCHOOL: You may return 5 to 7 days after surgery.
  • INFORMATION: Bloody drainage is normal and will reduce over the first 7 days.
    • Difficulty breathing through the nose and nasal crusting is to be expected.
    • Headache, nasal pain, and nasal pressure are normal after surgery.
    • Call our office for excessive bleeding, eye pain, change in vision or fever over 101.
