Myringotomy with Tubes

  • DIET: Resume regular diet.
  • ACTIVITY: No restrictions.
  • MEDICATIONS: Prescription ear drops as prescribed. Tylenol or Ibuprofen (for age and/or weight) can be used for mild discomfort.
  • FOLLOW-UP: Schedule an appointment with our office 10-14 days after surgery. Our medical assistant will call the first day after surgery to check on patient’s progress.
  • WORK/SCHOOL: May return the day after surgery.
  • INFORMATION: There may be some bloody drainage from the ear. Call our office if ear drainage (for more than three days) and/or if fever over 101 occurs.
    • Showering and bathing without head dunking is allowed.
    • Swimming and/or diving is prohibited without proper ear protection!
      • We recommend a device/headband called The Ear Band-It. It can be purchased online at www.earbandit.com
    • Tubes are designed to fall out spontaneously (usually) within 6 to 12 months.
