Closed Reduction of Nasal Fracture

  • DIET: Resume your previous diet.
  • ACTIVITY: No heavy lifting, strenuous exercise or physical education class for 10 days post surgery.
  • MEDICATIONS: Pain medication as prescribed. Tylenol or Ibuprofen as directed (for age and/or body weight).
  • FOLLOW-UP: Schedule an appointment with our office 7 days after your surgery. Our medical assistant will call daily to assess patient’s progress.
  • WORK/SCHOOL: You may return as soon as you feel ready. Usually the day after surgery.
  • INFORMATION: Swelling and bruising around the eyes is to be expected. This will normally resolve within 10-14 days after surgery.
    • Call our office if there is excessive nasal bleeding that will not stop with pressure.
    • Avoid trauma or direct contact to the nose.
    • DO NOT dislodge the aluminum splint on the nose. If it loosens and falls off prior to returning to our office, please call for further instructions. There may be special tape in place instead of a splint. This will remain intact for at least 7 days and will be removed during your post-op visit.
